Day 2 – 24th May – Quarantine Room Design Notes – Filtered Drinking Water Tap

There’s an extra tap on my vanity counter.

The sign, enlarged below, explains it is to do away with bottled water that was usually provided to guests, a practice that has been the norm for many years.

Cynical me can’t help rolling my eyes hard. But even if the primary motivation was really to cut costs and safe money from not providing bottled water to guests, I still think it’s really cool that so many fewer disposable plastic bottles are choking our planet because of this initiative.

Below are some pictures of the filtration used and how it’s connected.

Tap water in Singapore is already perfectly potable. But I guess most visitors would be hesitant and expect bottled water. (Heck, even some of us locals prefer to boil our tap water first before drinking it, out of an abundance of caution. Old habits die hard.) Hence this special extra filtration.

Interesting!

    • Wow I would never have thought of that! But yeah maybe not the water itself but all the countless hands touching the fountains all over to have a drink. Pre-Covid I think I’ve even seen people wrap their lips around the spigot eewww.

No wait I’d probably avoid them, considering I’m wary of doorknobs and lift buttons too haha…In the beginning of the pandemic around March last year I realised like most people I touch my face a lot! Breaking that habit was surprisingly hard and I still catch myself doing it occasionally. It sounds paranoid probably, but I’ll get a job soon after my quarantine hopefully but which means back to crowds in a busy city, especially public transport. And everybody’s concerned because even if you don’t get it but just informed you’re exposed (as a close contact to a positive person) it’s home quarantine I think and that could mean loss of income for that period so yeah it’s a big concern. Oh the times we live in!

    • I couldn’t agree more about that! The problem is that for many of us we are so used with the ease of just turning the tap to get water, even as at the back of our minds we know that running out is a terrifying prospect. So yes we need to start with small habits while we can.
